An ancient question; a modern question. In his own day, people wondered about Jesus. People are still contemplating the same question.

If you are a spiritual seeker, sincerely desiring to find life in the God who created you, there is great news for you. You can know with confidence that God himself has desires a relationship with you too!

At the risk of oversimplification, finding life in God has been described as four initial steps on a life long journey.

God's Purpose:
God loves you and wants you to experience peace and life - abundant & eternal

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.   John 3:16

I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.   John 10:10

...we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ,   Romans 5:1

Humanity's Problem:
God created us in His own image to have an abundant life. He did not make us as robots to automatically love and obey Him. God gave us a will and a freedom of choice.

We chose to disobey God and go our own willful way. We still make this choice today. Simply stated rebelling against God's leadership is called sin.  The result was and is separation from God.

for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,   Romans 3:23

For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.   Romans 6:23

Just as man is destined to die once, and after that to face judgment,   Hebrews 9:27

People have tried in many ways to 'bridge the gap', moral living, good works, even religious activity.  Unfortunately, our problem is so severe there is no way we can rectify it on our own.  The Good News is that God himself has provided a solution.

God's Answer:

God is loving, but he is also holy and just.  Our sin forever keeps us from this holy and just God.  Only a perfect, sinless substitute could remedy the dillemma.  God, full of love and amazing grace, provided the solution himself.  He would bear the just judgment for our sins.

God became a man.  Jesus came to show what God is really like and to endure the penalty of humanity's rebellion against God so that we could come back into a peaceful and personal relationship with God our Creator.

For there is only one God and one Mediator who can reconcile God and humanity—the man Christ Jesus.   1 Timothy 2:5

But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.   Romans 5:8

Christ suffered for our sins once for all time. He never sinned, but he died for sinners to bring you safely home to God.   1 Peter 3:18

The proof and confirmation of Jesus as the answer to our sin and separation is his resurrection.  While Jesus did, in fact, die on the cross, he is - also in fact - raised from the dead.  And his resurrection is a promise of sorts for our own hope for eternal life.

Jesus said, “I am the resurrection and the life. Those who believe in me will have life even if they die.  John 11:25

God has raised this Jesus to life, and we are all witnesses of the fact.   Acts 2:32

   Our Response:
Because of Jesus' life, death and resurrection, it is possible to experience new life and peace with God.  But God's offer of salvation is not automatic.  While we can do nothing to earn it, we must each respond personally.

Our response to the truth of both of our condition and God's answer is faith.  This faith, however, is not mere agreement or acceptance.  Genuine faith is evidenced in repenting - that is turning away from our sinful rebelliousness toward God and receiving - that is choosing to live your life following the leadership of Jesus.

I tell you the truth, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be condemned; he has crossed over from death to life.   John 5:24

That if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.   Romans 10:9

Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God.   John 1:12

On which side of the gap are you?

Are you confident that should you die this very day that you would be recieved by God in heaven?

If you have not personally, in genuine faith responded to God's offer of salvation, would you consider doing so right now?

You can begin a new life with God by humbly admiting your sinful condition, repenting of your sins, believing in Christ's life, death and resurrection.

While no canned speach can save you, you might find a simple prayer like this reflects the intent of your heart:

God in heaven, I know that I am a sinner and need Your forgiveness. I believe that You provide the perfect solution for my sinful condition.  I believe and thank You that Jesus' was a substitute for my own eternal death.

Right now, on this day, I want to turn from my sins. I now invite You to come into my heart and life. I want to trust and follow You as Lord and Savior. In Jesus' name. Amen.

If you sincerely responded to God's offer of salvation, congratulations!  The Bible teaches that some radical and special things have happened.  Here are a few:

1.   You are a brand new person.

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!   2 Corinthians 5:17

2.   Your sin is forgiven.

God rescued us from dead-end alleys and dark dungeons. He’s set us up in the kingdom of the Son he loves so much, the Son who got us out of the pit we were in, got rid of the sins we were doomed to keep repeating.

Colossians 1:13-14 (The Message)

3. You are given eternal life.

I tell you the truth, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be condemned; he has crossed over from death to life.   John 5:24

4. You are given power for life today.

For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love and of self-discipline.   2 Timothy 1:7

For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men. It teaches us to say “No” to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age,  Titus 2:11-12
